Larry Walker and Todd Helton will have to wait another year to see if they can obtain this high honor. This year, the inductees were Mariano Rivera, Roy Halladay, Mike Mussina, and Edgar Martinez. At least a Coloradoan made the cut. Halladay attended Arvada West High School, and was elected posthumously after dying in a plane crash in 2017. He’s only the second player from Colorado to make it to the Hall of Fame, after Goose Gossage. Walker came pretty close this year, garnering 54.6% of the votes. He made an impressive climb this year, overcoming the dreaded Coors Field effect to almost make the cut. He certainly has the numbers to make it and is deserving of the honor. Helton’s got much more time to wait, though. The Rockies have plenty of young talent to draw from, like Garrett Hampson and Ryan McMahon. They must be prepared to step in to replace not only a strong defender, but also a reliable hitter. Another big question revolves around pitching. Kyle Freeland is Denver’s golden boy, but we have yet to see if Jon Gray can deliver under pressure and need someone to replace the power that was Adam Ottavino. The Rockies are hoping at least one of their players will have a comeback year after struggling in 2018. The question is which player will deliver the goods. Bryan Shaw fought a losing battle, Ian Desmond didn’t quite bring his best, and even Nolan Arenado had a tough time after a shoulder injury.
